Down the stairs, through the wine cellar and past the rusty skeleton of the last water wheel is the Inn's best kept secret. The Fireside Tavern boasts a full service bar and table seating for 50 persons. An authentic brick floor, thick stone walls, hand hewn wooden beams and a massive working fireplace lend a decidedly rustic ambience. The Tavern is the repository of numerous artifacts from the old gristmill. Of particular note is the old checkerboard on the ceiling. Over the years, the millers played checkers to pass the time between farmers' wagons laden with newly harvested grain.
