The Poetry of Presidents at the Inn at Millrace Pond
Sunday March 21th, 2010
"The Six Centuries Club of America continues its fourth season of American history
themed events with 'The Poetry of Presidents,' which will be held at the Inn at Millrace Pond
in Hope, NJ on Sunday, March 21, starting 1:30 p.m. The first hour of the program will be
dedicated to reading poetry written by American presidents, starting with George Washington
and going forward chronologically. The second part of the program will feature poets from
award-winning Sensations Magazine, reading their original poems about American presidents.
(There is no "open mic.") The reading will take place in our fireside tavern in the
gristmill building, built in 1769, offering both an aesthetically pleasant colonial atmosphere
along with fine food and drink. While the event is free and open to the general public,
attendees are encouraged to start arriving around 1pm and order food and/or drink
(alcoholic or non), with most of our items priced around $10. In case of a blizzard,
a back-up snow date of Sunday, March 28, same time, has been established.
The event will be hosted by David Messineo, one of 26 individuals statewide to receive a
2009 New Jersey State Jefferson Award for Public Service for his volunteer work in research,
publishing, and creating educational and entertaining events that generate a greater awareness
and appreciation of American history. Sensations Magazine conducted a writer's retreat at the
Inn at Millrace Pond in 2000; this will be the group's first return to our site in a decade.
For additional information, please go to the website www.sensationsmag.com, 'Upcoming Events'
button. Participants do not have to read to attend; anyone who is interested in learning about the
creative writings of our American Presidents is encouraged to attend this rare and unusual
'one-time-only' event."
